Training 120 young people in dyeing, weaving and making bags and shoes

For three (03) months, 120 young people will receive training in weaving, dyeing and making bags and shoes. Initiated by the Ecole Boukary Couture (EBC) and Job Booster Social Enterprise Burkina Faso, with financial support from Burkina Suudu Bawdè, this project aims to help young people find decent work through self-employment. The launch ceremony took place on 11 November 2024 at the EBC headquarters.

As soon as you enter the Boukary Couture training school, you can see young people arranged in groups around the instructors in the sheds. These are the training classes in shoe-making with Faso danfani loincloth and Kôkô dounda dyeing. A little further on, in a room, are the bag-making students. This is the atmosphere that will prevail in the centre over the coming weeks. These short training courses are part of the "Kôkôounda" project. As for the support provided by Job Booster Social Enterprise, the Director Benjamin Zio gives us some details: " As part of this project, Job Booster will prepare young people to set up their own businesses and ensure that they have a real chance of finding employment through work placements, obtaining financing and managing their businesses properly. ". He adds that these young people will also benefit from training in life skills, entrepreneurship and the communication and marketing of their products. At the end of this process, the young people will be able to become self-employed and thus have a decent job.

The participants come from different areas of Ouagadougou and include young people, women and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The project is being implemented by Ecole Boukary Couture (EBC) and Job Booster Social Enterprise Burkina Faso, with financial support from Burkina Suudu Bawdè.
